Training and Career
Porta trained under Michelangelo and Vignola. He primarily worked in Rome, where he completed the construction of the dome of St. Peter's Cathedral, designed by Michelangelo. Porta's modifications, including the elevation and elongation of the outer structure, gave the dome its distinctive silhouette.
