In 1996, Hindustani violinist , with support from the music organisation Swarmauli, decided to felicitate his guru, the eminent musician DK Datar, for receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award that year. It was also around the time that Raikar had got to know Kishori Amonkar, and had invited her to felicitate Datar.
During a lull in the programme, the great Jaipur gharana singer turned to Datar and told him, “Send Milind to my house. I will teach him the Jaipur gayaki.” Datar agreed at once.
